The University Academic Planning Council considered and recommended these formal academic actions and changes.
Majors and Degrees
Preliminary Entitlement to Plan
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of an entitlement to plan a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.
Approved an entitlement to plan an undergraduate major in Religious Studies.
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of an entitlement to plan a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition.
Authorization to Implement
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of an authorization to implement an M.A. in Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies.
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of an authorization to implement a "Professional Master of French Studies" degree in French Studies (a capstone program).
Joint Review
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of the five-year joint review of the MS/MBS in Business: Distribution Management. The review was accompanied by a proposal to change the name of the program to Business: Supply Chain Management.
Approved the five-year joint review of the B.S. in Materials Science Engineering and recommended continuation.
Approved the five-year joint review of the Doctor of Pharmacy degree program and recommended continuation.
Phased-out
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of the proposal from the Department of Human Oncology to discontinue the graduate program in "Human Cancer Biology".
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of the proposal from the Medical School to discontinue the Ph.D. program in "Developmental Biology". This decision was requested by the program faculty and eliminates the need to conduct the pending five-year joint review.
Approved the request of the College of Engineering to phase-out the undergraduate major in "Metallurgical Engineering".
Approved the request of the School of Human Ecology to phase-out the undergraduate major in "Nutrition" (Bachelor of Science - Home Economics.)
Approved the request of the School of Human Ecology to phase-out the undergraduate major in "Dietetics" (Bachelor of Science - Home Economics). (This major will continue in CALS).
Approved the request of the School of Human Ecology and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences to phase-out the undergraduate major in "Foodservice Administration".
Approved the request of the College of Letters & Science to discontinue the undergraduate major in "Greek".
Approved the request of the College of Letters & Science to discontinue the undergraduate major in "Music:Theory".
Approved the request of the College of Letters & Science to discontinue the undergraduate major in "Computer Science and Statistics". (The separate majors "Computer Science" and "Statistics" will continue).
Renamed/Restructured
The undergraduate major "International Relations" was renamed "International Studies". The numerous options under this major were reorganized into 4 options: Global Economy, Global Security, Global Environment, and Global Cultures.
The program, undergraduate major, and graduate major (MA) in "Latin American and Iberian Studies" were all renamed "Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies". The masters level major name change was formally approved by the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee and ratified by the UAPC.
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of the proposal to rename the graduate major (MS and PHD) in "Oceanography and Limnology" to "Limnology and Marine Science". The program name and Ph.D. Minor names are also changed.
The undergraduate major General Home Economics was renamed Human Ecology. The degree associated with the major Bachelor of Science-Home Economics was renamed Bachelor of Science-Human Ecology.
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of the proposal to rename the MS/MBA in Business: Distribution Management to Business: Supply Chain Management.
The undergraduate major Child and Family Studies was renamed Human Development and Family Studies. The corresponding degree, Bachelor of Science - Child and Family Studies, was also renamed Bachelor of Science - Human Development and Family Studies.
Special Committee Degree
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of a Special Committee Degree in Computational Sciences at the masters level. A proposal for an entitlement to plan an MS in Computational Sciences is being developed.
Options, Minors, and Honors Programs
New
Approved the Cytotechnology option under the undergraduate major Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
Approved the Business Honors in the Liberal Arts (BHLA) program. Students completing the program will be awarded the designation Bachelor of Business Administration with Honors in the Liberal Arts.
The undergraduate major "International Relations" was renamed "International Studies". The numerous options under this major were reorganized into 4 remaining options: Global Economy, Global Security, Global Environment, and Culture in an Age of Globalization.
Renamed/Restructured
The undergraduate specialization Distribution Management (BBA) was renamed Supply Chain Management.
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of the proposal to restructure the options in the graduate major Human Ecology into three new options available for both the MS and PhD. The MS and PhD concentration "Child and Family Studies" was renamed "Human Development and Family Studies". The MS concentration "Consumer Science" was renamed "Consumer Behavior and Family Economics", and a PhD concentration in "Consumer Behavior and Family Economics" was added. The MS concentrations "Interior Environments" and "Textiles and Clothing" and the PhD concentration "Textiles and Design" were all renamed "Design Studies".
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of the proposal to rename the graduate major in "Oceanography and Limnology" to "Limnology and Marine Science". The program name and Ph.D. Minor names are also changed.

Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of a Certificate in Prevention and Intervention Science for graduate students and for special students.
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of a Capstone Certificate in Public Affairs.
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of a graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning Scholarship in Higher Education.
