The University Academic Planning Council considered and recommended the formal academic actions and changes presented below.
Majors and Degrees
Preliminary Entitlement to Plan
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of an entitlement to plan an M.A. in Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies.
B.S. in Engineering Physics.
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of an entitlement to plan a professional Masters of French Studies (a capstone program).
Authorization to Implement
B.S. in Computer Engineering.
Masters of Physical Therapy.
Joint Review
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's final approval of the joint review and recommendation to continue the M.S. in Conservation Biology and Sustainable Development.
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of the joint review and recommendation to continuue the M.A. in Southeast Asian Studies.
Phased-out
B.A./B.S. in American Institutions.
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of the proposal to phase out the M.S. in General Home Economics. No degrees have been granted in this major for over 30 years.
New Degrees for Existing Majors
Name Changes/Restructuring
The degree associated with the bachelor's level major in "Music: Theory" has been changed from Bachelor of Music to a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science Degree.
The Medical Technology major and degree were renamed to Clinical Laboratory Science (Medical School).
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of the proposal to restructure the graduate majors in the School of Human Ecology: The Ph.D. majors in Child and Family Studies and Textiles and Design become concentrations in a consolidated Ph.D. in Human Ecology. The M.S. majors in Consumer Sciences, Child and Family Studies, Interior Environments, and Textiles and Clothing become concentrations in a consolidated M.S. in Human Ecology.
Approved the extention of the bachelor's level Biology major in the School of Education (B.S.- Education) to the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (B.S.-Natural Sciences) and the College of Letters and Science (B.S. degree).
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of the proposal to rename the School of Business's Masters major in "Business: Diversified" to "Business: General Management".
Approved the extention of the undergraduate Individual Major to the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of proposal to rename the degree majors in the LaFollette Institute: M.A. in Development Policy and Public Administration renamed to Master of International Public Affairs (major will also be International Public Affairs); M.A. in Public Affairs to Master of Public Affairs (major will continue to be Public Affairs).
Submajors/Options
New
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of two new options under the M.S. in Environmental Monitoring. Option 1, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Science and Technology (current curriculum). Option 2, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Management (new curriculum focusing on management issues).
Ratified the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee's approval of named options in the Department of Languages and Cultures of Asia as follows. The M.A. in Languages and Cultures of Asia, has two named options: 'Languages and Cultures' and 'South Asian Studies'. The Ph.D. in Languages in Cultures of Asia has four named options: 'Languages and Literatures', 'Civilization and Cultures', 'Religious Studies', and 'Buddhist Studies'.
