UW-Madison Department Planning Profiles
The current version of the Department Planning Profiles covers the period from 1998-99 through 2007-08
What are the Department Planning Profiles?
- Originally developed many years ago (in 1984) by the College of Letters & Science
- Now expanded to include departments in the other schools and colleges, as a result of a joint project between UW-Madison Office of Budget, Planning & Analysis and the College of Letters & Science
- Provides statistical indicators to support planning in academic departments
- Ninety-Five (95) different indicators are each tracked as ten-year trends for each department. The indicators are provided for both fall and spring semesters.
- The 95 indicators are grouped into the following 9 topic areas:
Permanent Commitments
Instructional FTE - Payroll
Non-Instructional FTE-Payroll
Credits Generated
Honors and General Ed Credits
Majors - Headcount
Majors FTE
Degrees Granted
Extramural Awards
How can the Department Planning Profiles be Accessed?
- The files listed below can be downloaded from this web page. HOWEVER, they are password protected at this time. Your's dean's office can provide the password. Otherwise, contact Bruce Beck
- A printer-ready version of the entire Department Profile document is available in this .PDF file. Use the search tool within Acrobat Reader to find and print the pages of interest to you.
- If you need to re-organize the data found in the Department Profiles, use these Excel files to bring the data to your desktop. These files can easily be imported into MS Access or SAS if you prefer to work with the data in those environments.
What Documentation is Available to Explain How the Department Planning Profiles Were Tabulated?
- A list of the Departments that are profiled
- A document of Explanatory Notes describing each departmental indicator
- A list showing how each timetable department is assigned to a budget department.
- A list showing how each major is assigned to a budget department.
- A list showing how historical trend lines are maintained for departments that moved into another school or college, and departments that either merged or split apart.
- A list showing how some subdepartments have been consolidated and/or remapped into new UDDS values, for purposes of the department planning profiles.
