AAUDE - DELAWARE STUDY of INSTUCTIONAL COSTS and PRODUCTIVITY

Caretaker - Contact Jocelyn Milner with questions or advice about how to make this page more useful.

About the Delaware Study - A detailed website is available that describes the Delaware Study
(National Study of Instructional Costs and Productivity) and includes:

  • the invitation to participate,
  • data collection forms and instructions,
  • information on participating institutions,
  • examples of data summaries,
  • policy papers and presentations based on the Delaware Study data .

Participating AAUDE institutions respond to the Delaware Study's invitation to participate in the fall,
submit data files directly to the Delaware Study (no later than the end of January), work directly with
the Delaware Study on data file review, and recieve data and report files from the Delaware Study (usually August).

Institutions can participate by providing information on instructional effort (student credit hours
and numbers of sections) and/or instructional expenditures. Some institutions provide only the
instructional effort information but not the expenditure information. Some institutions provide
information on a few CIPs; some provide all CIPs.

Nuts and Bolts of Participating in the Delaware Study

    • Practical advice for participation based on UW-Madison's experience - pdf file
    • Practice example for annual participation - other university's experience (any volunteers?)

Exchange Information and Reports -
The Delaware Study provides AAUDE with composite data files and peer norm
reports for AAUDE participants. Those files and reports are available through the AAUDE Delaware
Study web page. The data files are loaded into the AAUDE data warehouse.

For a description of the peer norm reports read this file: Desc_Peer_Norm_Reports.pdf

About Timing of Reports

Files for the previous year are due by the end of January. The AAUDE composite file is provided the following August. Some AAUDE reps have commented that this peer comparison file would be more useful if it was available earlier. The Delaware Study staff would provide the composite files as early as March if all participating AAUDEs agree on an earlier AAUDE-specific deadline. Efforts in Fall 2007 to establish an early AAUDE-specific deadline were not successful because not all participating AAUDEs are able to submit a file early.
